The dropout is a small metallic "hook" that attaches the gear switcher and gear system to the frame of the bike. The customer is responsible for checking that the gear on the bike is correctly adjusted before usage. If the gear system is not properly adjusted before use, the gear system may break.
If the bike is exposed of shocks, bangs etc through use, the dropout may also be bent. Typical "bangs" may be that the bicycle is leaned against a fence, that the gear system hits the pavement, that the bicycle is laid down with the gear system facing the ground, etc. When shifting, the gear system can then enter the spokes and consequently break.
This is not a warranty issue as the problem arises due to improper use and / or lack of basic service (gear adjustment) of the bicycle, and costs must be covered by the customer.
