Our modern electric bicycles are reliable in use, and maintenance of electric bicycles has developed to alevel where they are not significantly different from ordinary bicycles except from the electronic components. Regular washing, lubrication, washing and drying of the electric bicycle is elementary in order to achieve as long a life on the electric bicycle as possible.
A thorough service of the bike means that a bike mechanic adjusts, tightens and lubricates all moving parts. After this, E-Wheels recommends that you carry out maintenance periodically, depending on how often and how far you cycle. Further down in this article you will find a checklist for the maintenance of your electric bike.
Do the following to maintain your warranty
Inspection, to be performed no later than 2 months after the date of purchase, includes the following: Adjustment, tightening and lubrication of moving parts.
Service inspection that should be performed approximately 1-2 times a year or after 1000km (must be documented), including the following: Adjustment of steering parts, crankshaft, gear, front axle, lubrication of external moving parts and safety check of tire depth and tire pressure (tire pressure should be 3- 4 bar), light (testing of wires or batteries), and also a general safety check of the rest of the bike.
Maintenance.
This involves proper charging and storage of the product, washing and cleaning, maintenance of tires and brakes. See the checklist further down in the article for thorough guidance on these points.

2. Tire and brake maintenance
3. Battery and charger maintenance
4. Electric bicycle storage for a longer period of time
Washing and cleaning
Wash
Washing and cleaning an electric bicycle is basically a very simple process. Hot soapy water, a used toothbrush, a cleaning brush and a towel are enough to clean the bike. DO NOT use a high pressure washer. The electronic components on the bike can withstand some water, but not much water, or water over a long period of time. "A lot of water" is, for example, immersing a bicycle in water, or using a high-pressure washer.
Water damage to the bike's electronic components is not covered by the warranty. It is therefore essential that you wipe the bike dry after washing AND after use. The electronic components - and the bike itself - must be stored dry and at room temperature to avoid moisture damage.
Other cleaning
All wear parts must be lubricated regularly. Electric bikes with a crank motor wear directly on the chain, and it is therefore essential that maintenance is done often and carefully. Brake wires, gears, brakes etc must also be lubricated at regular intervals. Lack of lubrication significantly increases wear, and reduces the life of the electric bike.
Tire and brake maintenance
Tire:
When the tires are worn or damaged, they must be replaced before continuing on the electric bike. Refill once a week for frequent use! It is very important that the tires have the correct air pressure before use. When unpacking, the tires have around 2 bar air pressure, and will puncture if you do not fill air. One should have between 3.4-4 bar (50-60psi), but it is important to check the side of the tire for the recommended pressure. Proper air pressure provides better range, top speed, acceleration, climbing ability and good driving comfort. Most importantly: it drastically reduces the risk of punctures!
Punctures are not covered, with the exception of manufacturing defects. In the event of a puncture, due to different air pressures in the tire and the surroundings, air will leak out at the valve as this is the only opening for the air to escape. This usually does not mean that the valve is defective. To check if the valve is defective, the hose must be removed and kept under water. Then see where the air seeps out of the hose. Avoid curbs, jumping, skewed weight distribution + fill air to avoid puncture
Spare parts can be purchased at www.e-wheels.no
Make it a habit to go over the electric bike, check the air pressure and see if all of the visible screws fit well. It is very important that all visible screws are retightened, and it is recommended to do this every week, depending on how much the bike is used.
Brake
The brake must be adjusted and retightened if necessary. Contact us for guidance.
Always check the brake before using the product. If it does not brake sufficiently, this must be rectified before using the product.
Products with disc brakes need to replace brake pads when needed. This can be ordered at www.e-wheels.no
Battery and charger maintenance
Age and use affect battery life. The battery life will decrease somewhat over time, and it is therefore important that you follow the guidelines for battery maintenance and charger to increase the optimal battery life. You must take good care of the battery, and be careful when charging, using and storing.
Battery
Momas bikes are equipped with Li-ion batteries. The average life of the battery is about 600 cycles. During normal use and good maintenance, the battery life can usually reach more than 600 cycles.
- Before using the bike for the first time, it is very important to fully charge it.
- Always bring the battery with you and make sure it is dry.
- Always try to leave a minimum of 10% and avoid draining the battery completely before returning it to charge.
- Do not leave the electric bike with a completely empty battery for several hours. Put it to charge as soon as possible.
- Always use the original charger that belongs to your model.
- Do not leave the electric bike in places where the temperature is colder than -5, nor leave it in the middle of the sun, rather put it in the shade.
- Li-ion batteries must be treated with extreme care. Overcharging, damage or overheating can cause a fire. Always be awake and present when charging the scooter and do not leave it to charge overnight.
- Do not use, charge or leave a damaged battery unattended, follow the disposal protocols immediately and have it disposed of correctly.
- Before charging, remember to make sure that the charger is switched off. Then insert the plug from the charger into the battery. Then plug it in and then switch on the charger.
- Charging should preferably take place in a dry and ventilated environment and preferably at room temperature. Never charge the electric bike near fire and heat sources.
- Avoid excessive vibration or shock to the batteries.
- Never run the battery completely empty of power, and do not leave it empty of power over time. This will damage the battery.
- Always charge the battery before putting the bike away.
Charger
- The charger is intended for indoor use.
- Wipe the battery after use and before charging.
- Insert the plug from the charger into the wall socket. (AC110V-230V)
- Make sure the bike is unscrewed and the key is removed before charging the bike.
- Open the charging port cover and insert the charging connector into the charging port.
- The chargers from E-Wheels have a built-in timing function for when the battery is fully charged.
- The light on the charger lights up red to indicate that charging is in progress. When the lamp changes from red to green, it indicates that the battery is fully charged.
- When the battery is to be charged, the scooter must be placed in a dry and ventilated room / space.
Electric bicycle storage for a longer period of time
When the electric bicycle is to be stored for longer periods, you must store the battery and bicycle separately. Battery should be inside.
Every four weeks, the battery should also be recharged, as Li-ion batteries (like all other batteries) have some self-discharge. The battery should NOT be charged less than 50%, and not more than 80% of the battery capacity. Full charge or full discharge may reduce battery life and function.
Other electronic components on the bike (and the bike itself) should also be stored dry and at room temperature. Moisture damage is not covered by warranty. It is therefore essential that the customer makes sure that all electronic components are dry before putting the bike away. In addition, the customer must ensure that the bicycle remains dry and at room temperature during the period the bicycle is unused.
